I’ve been wanting to write a blog about this ever since it happened almost a MONTH ago. How have I been engaged almost a month already?! I swear, life is just flying by.
Let’s go back to the beginning of November at Texas Motor Speedway.
Thursday night, Chance and I went to the track to eat dinner with my parents before he went back home (he had to work the next day). Luckily, I was able to work from the track, so I could spend time with my parents. Little did I know, Chance had gotten a special package and was wearing my ENGAGEMENT ring on his finger at work all day.
Everything was going like any other day, but I was becoming more and more excited because my friends were joining us. One of them, in particular, had never been to a NASCAR race before, so I was ready to show her what the infield was all about!
The sun was setting, and Chance texted me, asking if I was waiting to eat until he arrived. My mom made his favorite: chili. I said I would wait, even though I was STARVING and everyone else had eaten. I resorted to dancing in order to distract myself from how hungry I was. LOL. (#AlwaysHungry).
Finally, Chance pulled up as I was dancing to “Colt 45,” with Taylor and Josie. From there, it all happened so fast. I walked up to him and asked, “Are you ready to go get some chili?” I turned towards the motorhome to get my chili on, and when I turned back around, he was down on his knee. At first, I thought he was falling or something!
But then, he looked up at me and asked if I wanted to be his dance partner for the rest of my life. Immediately, I started crying and couldn’t believe it was was happening.
I nodded “yes” because I just couldn’t form the words. I sobbed into his arms and never wanted him to let me go. I was so surprised and happy that it happened at a track – a huge part of our love story – and when my parents were here visiting. For those of you who don’t know, Chance and I met at Daytona International Speedway. I swear, I think NASCAR should have to pay for our wedding. 😂
When I could finally see through my tears, I noticed my ring was the ring of my DREAMS. When we had only been dating around 4 months, I was in Petoskey, Michigan, celebrating my Grandma’s birthday. My sister suggested a visit to this little jewelry store to try on rings. I knew I was going to marry Chance almost immediately, so I never thought it was too soon to look around.
I tried on a marquise diamond with a halo and diamond band. I knew this was the one because of how it felt: perfect. No other shape of diamond looked as good on my finger, and it was so unique. OF COURSE, I sent him a photo and told him this was exactly what I wanted.
Fast forward to proposal time.
He told me my ring is from the same store I visited that day. It’s not the same ring, as the first one was gone, but they remembered what I wanted and custom-made the ring of my dreams.
In those moments, I couldn’t stop looking at my best friend, my love, the man I’ve been searching for my entire life. I get to MARRY this man and spend the rest of my life with him. I just kept asking, “Is this really happening?”
I’m still saying it.
Now, when we cuddle, Chance holds my hand just to feel the ring on it. When we’re sitting on the couch, he’ll pull my hand up to look at the ring and just smile at me. I don’t think I’ll ever get over how that makes me feel. I love hearing him call me his fiancée, and I love knowing that I get to marry him.
I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect proposal – something so perfect for the two of us. I also couldn’t have asked for a better man to marry.
Here’s to forever, baby!
